But if you want the motif to look like double crochet worked in rows, simply turn the work after each round.

But if you want the motif to look like double crochet worked in rows, simply turn the work after each round.
These crochet diagrams have six rounds, but you can make more or fewer rounds as required for a larger or smaller motif.
To make a semicircle, start the same as the circle but with half of the initial stitches and work in rows, (turn the work after each row).
